North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is calling on the Achimota school as a matter of urgency to admit the two Rasfarian children.
According to him, that will be in the supreme welfare of the students.
Mr. Ablakwa made this appeal on Thursday, March 25, 2021, when he made a statement in Parliament on the controversial issue.
He argued that accepting students in their current ages “cannot be the enemy of any educational system.”
“As I have noted above, we must rethink our concept of discipline in our schools. Making pupils and students appreciate the diversity and beauty of different backgrounds, beliefs, and creeds does not undermine discipline by any effort of the imagination”.
“Tolerance and acceptance of unique identities at that age cannot be hostile in any educational system. It is an amazing positive quality to absorb in our children. In any case, don’t our children see the people we refuse to admit around them in real life and in their reading materials? “
“We must quickly fix this mess and get away from distraction. The two students and all minority students facing blatant discrimination must be admitted immediately in the interests of their highest welfare, as required by the Children’s Act, Act 560. “
