On the fast-rising of crime and a countless number of bullion van attacks. A daylight bullion van attack claimed the life of an unidentified police officer.
Armed men attack and robbed the van at “Adedapo” suburb of James Town, policeman killed in the process.
According to P.R.O Greater Accra Regional Police D.S.P Effia Tenge;
At about 11:30 am, information received by the police indicated that a bullion van had been attacked. Police swiftly responded and on the spot, investigations indicate that a bullion van was on a daily collection earn and on reaching an area called “Adedapo” suburb of James Town. Some unidentified men on not less than 3 motorbikes, cross the bullion van and started shooting sporadically. Two persons were shot and killed instantly, the policeman on escort duty and a lady who is yet to be verified.
She also added;
The bullion driver sustained gunshot wounds and has been sent to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital for treatment. Two tellers who were on the van escaped unhurt. The weapon of the police officer was taken away together with an unspecified amount of money.
Police crime scene experts were invited to process the site as part of the investigation process to apprehend the perpetrator involved, according to D.S.P Effia Tenge.
Lastly she asked the general public to alert the police regional command should anyone have information concerning this incident.
