Ghana Receives 350,000 Vaccines Today
Ghana receives 350,000 vaccines from the Democratic Republic of Congo today to aid in the fight against the Covid 19 virus.
The COVAX vaccines were originally meant for DR Congo but the country made a report concerning their inability to dispense most of their vaccines numbering up to 1.7million doses since its expiry date would be due on June 24, 2021. Their vaccines are therefore being sent to other African countries based on their agreement with the African Union.
Turkish Airlines delivered the 350,000 doses to Ghana and they arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday, May 7.
From the records of the Ghana Health Service(GHS), as of Friday, April 30, they had been able to administer 849,527 from the total of 966,850 received under various partners.

Last Monday, the president of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo said on CNN that his government has a target to vaccinate 20million people at the end of the year.
“We have vaccinated nearly a million people. Our target is to vaccinate 20 million people by the end of the year and the 20 million mean effectively vaccinating the entire adult population of the country” he said.
He is worried about the delay to get more vaccines to vaccinate the population.
“We are a country of some 30 million and if we are able to vaccinate some 20 million people by end of year, it would have meant that we had vaccinated the adult population.
The delays in getting the vaccine of course have been a little troublesome.” He added.
Ghana was the first country to take delivery of 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines from the Serum Institute of India under the COVAX facility.
The quest of the country to get more vaccines has been partly met by today’s delivery of 350,000 doses.
