Biography

Emmanuel Andrews Sammini, Born 22 December 1981,  known by his stage name Samini (formerly as Batman Samini), is a Ghanaian Reggae and Dance hall recording artist from Wa, Ghana.

His genre of music is a uniquely melodious mixture of high life, dance hall, reggae and hip-hop. Sammini terms his brand of music as the “African dancehall”. He signed his first record deal with Ashanti International. He also sprang his record label after he left the aforementioned label.

Samini has released seven studio albums, all being highly successful on the commercial market. Samini’s success and recognition began when his first single, Linda, was released and subsequently appeared on other successful singles by other artists.

He was en-skinned as a Chief in his home town on 13 December 2018. The title given to him by the WaNaa (Paramount Chief of Wa) is `Pebilii Naa’, which means `King of the Rocks’ in Wa.

Samini Early Life

Samini started singing in a church choir at the age of 14 and became a professional musician after a musical collaboration with another musician in 1999. He then debut the studio album, Dankwasere, which was released in 2004; it topped the local music charts for weeks and also won two awards at the Ghana Music Awards. The album was supported by the single “Linda“.

It has been widely speculated that he has about 11 kids. However, until 2018 the veteran dancehall artiste had six children.

Between the two years, the musician married two women. Samini married Mercy Geker, the mother of his daughter, Yelisun Samini, in London in February 2011.

Mercy Geker was unaware of Samini’s engagement to Christian Aboagye Mensah, a Ghanaian living in Canada and the mother of his daughters Toyila and then Ayana Samini.

Samini admitted to marrying two females in a statement provided exclusively to Peace FM online from his management. He also apologized for any humiliation or embarrassment caused by the two families.

He has performed alongside Sean Paul, Akon, Kevin Little, Shaggy, Wayne Wonder, Damian Marley, Bennie Man, Jay-Z, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Culture (Joseph Hill)(of Blessed Memory) and Steel Pulse.

He has also collaborated with Steel Pulse and Etana from Jamaica. Samini has received international recognition and toured the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, and the Netherlands due to his huge contribution to the Ghanaian industry. He is undoubtedly one of Ghana best musicians of all time.

Samini Awards

When he won “Best African Act” at the 2006 MOBO Awards, Samini gained international attention. He received three prizes at the 2007 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards after releasing his second self-titled studio album.

Samini won the “African Artiste of the Year” award at The Headies in February 2008.

He also released his third album which he titled Dagaati, in 2008. The Dagaati King of dancehall music after releasing his 7th album, UNTAMED won the Album of the Year at the Reggaeville 2018.
