Two suspected drug smugglers detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, by agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The two suspected drug smugglers, Chukwudi Destiny and Ezekiel Chibuzo, excreted a total of 191 pellets of heroin and cocaine while under surveillance, according to Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja.
“NDLEA operatives at MMIA intercepted and referred one Chukwudi Destiny for scanning on 10th April 2021, during the outward screening of passengers on Ethiopian airline to Italy, and the scan result proved positive to drug ingestion,” the statement reads. As a result, he was put under excretion observation, during which he excreted 92 Heroin pellets weighing a total of 1.300kg.
“Also on April 12th, 2021, operatives at SAHCO import shed made a seizure of 11.550kg of Heroin cleverly packaged and concealed in corn flakes cartons during the inbound inspection of consignments on Ethiopian airline cargo flight from South Africa. In connection with the seizure, four clearing agents have been arrested.
“A sting operation was carried out on the address given by one of the suspects, according to the Commander, MMIA Command of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Garba. Kayembe Kamba Mazepy, a Congolese, was arrested during the process. He named another person who will receive the parcel from him after his arrest.
“In the early hours of Saturday, April 17th, 2021, another sting operation was performed on the basis of the details, and the individual who came to take delivery was arrested.
“In a similar way, another drug trafficker, Ezekiel Chibuzo, was arrested for drug ingestion on Friday, April 16th, 2021, when he arrived in Lagos from Brazil onboard Qatar Airlines. He has so far excreted 99 Cocaine wraps. Officers at the airport’s export shed recently intercepted 822.950kg of khat leaves destined for the United Kingdom and the United States.”
